I received product from ProFlowers to write this post, however all experiences and opinions expressed are my own.
It’s almost #Halloween – my favorite time of year! I love all the beautiful fall colors, and I especially love pumpkins. So why not combine these two things into a DIY pumpkin vase with gorgeous flowers from ProFlowers?
ProFlowers sent me this awesome H-owl-oween Hoot flower arrangement. It was absolutely perfect for me because I love owls, and it’s actually a potted plant, so I can keep it a long time!
I was very impressed with how the arrangement was sent. It was carefully packed with moss to make sure it stayed hydrated and the flowers didn’t get crushed during shipping.
Once you’re ready to make your DIY pumpkin vase, the first step is to find the right sized pumpkin. You are not going to put the flowers directly into the pumpkin, because the pumpkin will absorb all the water and get really gross and bloated. Nobody wants that.
So you need to decide what kind of container you’re going to put your flowers in (a vase, cup, etc.) and then choose your pumpkin accordingly. Because my flowers were already planted in a small little container, I picked a pretty small pumpkin. I actually used a “pie pumpkin” which I assume is not really for carving but more for cooking and making pies – but it was the perfect size, so pie pumpkin it was!
Next, you’re going to cut the top off of your pumpkin and get it to the right height of your container. You want the pumpkin to be a little taller than the container so that you can’t see it peeking out of the pumpkin when you’re done.
Scoop out the pumpkin pulp and seeds and discard the top.
Next, you can decorate your DIY pumpkin vase however you’d like. I used a melon baller to make some simple circle designs on the front of my pumpkin vase.
Put your flowers in their container with water, and then place the container inside the pumpkin vase. And there you go! That’s it! Such a fun and easy little craft!

at (9 years ago)Super cute, unique idea. I have not seen this done before. I suppose the idea is endless. You could do a flower vase, or even do the “treat” bowl for the trick or treaters. Very cool.
