I found this bib/collar necklace at Anthropologie (pictured on right) that I really liked, but like most things at Anthropologie, it was just too darned expensive. So I made my own version using dollar store supplies.
I found these foam visors at Dollar Tree and grabbed a pack of glitter glue plus some “metallic” plastic necklaces and got to work. Here’s kind of a time lapse of what I did with the glitter glue. You can see in the last two photos that I added in some sequins I had on-hand plus the silver beads from the plastic necklace as well as cut up pieces of the butterflies from the necklace.
I used the glitter glue to attach everything, and so far nothing as fallen off – score! My final necklace looks pretty similar to the Anthropologie version (in my opinion) and it was far less expensive to make.
I still had two visors left over from the pack, so of course I had to make two other necklaces! One I trimmed more than the first necklace for a little more “slim” look. Then I covered it with tacky glue and red glitter from Dollar Tree. I finished the necklace by spraying it with some Mod Podge acrylic sealer to ensure the glitter didn’t fall off everywhere.
For the last necklace I just covered the entire thing with sequins. Because really, you can never have too many sequins… I had a “doh” moment and tried using hot glue first, but it didn’t stick to the foam visor, of course. So I ended up just using tacky glue with the sequins and it worked fine.
In the end I got three new fabulous collar necklaces for less than $5. You can’t beat that price!

at (12 years ago)Saw your DIY Anthro collar on “My Whims” today. LOVE IT!!! It’s very similar to the one I’m wearing in my post today. I keep thinking I could make something like it, and now I know how! And, truth be told, I actually like yours better than Anthropologie’s. Thanks for posting, Sarah! ~Sarah
