I’ve been seeing these “mixed media journals” AKA SMASH books everywhere – they have them at the craft store, in blog posts – everyone has one, but no one can really explain what it is. I guess it’s like a scrapbook but not necessarily with photos. You can stick magazine clippings, concert tickets, maps, brochures – whatever you want in it.
So, I decided to break my streak of making stuff to put on walls, and not being one to buy something I can make myself, I went about making my own DIY SMASH book.
I thought it would be neat to have the words on the page in the background instead of just a blank page, so I used an old book I had bought at the library bookstore just for craft use – AKA I was going to tear all the pages out and use them for one of those cool book page crafts you always see on Pinterest.
I wrote “smash” all over it, ya know, so just in case I forgot what it was for or what I supposed to do with it. And if I decided not to use it as a SMASH book I could always use it for my Hulk fan fic, haha, get it? I’m so glad I used the raised foam stickers on the side – I think it looks really cool.
So…what to put inside the SMASH book… So far, I haven’t put much inside it. Mainly pictures that I’ve cut out of magazines that I like, a greeting card that I found while cleaning my bedroom, some little drawings, the likes. But it’s already looking kind of crazy and smashable.
What do you put in YOUR SMASH book?

at (12 years ago)I love this idea! Now that I do a blog I haven’t been scrapbooking pictures. But I still have stuff that I’ve saved for the kids like this. I think my older girls and I will make these together. Awesome idea, thanks!

at (12 years ago)I love your smash book. Very unique. I have an “actual” smash book, and I never know what to put in it either. I just stare at it whenever I take it out to try and work on it!

at (12 years ago)This is my first time hearing about a “smash” book, but I’ll tell ya, I used to make these all the time when I was a youth, but I didn’t call it a smash book. I don’t remember what I called it….scrap journal maybe? Anyway, yours looks cool, can we see the inside??? Stopping by from FPTFY’s WYWW hop π

at (12 years ago)smash is NOT an offline “pinterest” page, no matter how
much you try to make it one. also, smash books are NOT meant
to be so overstuffed and full. make it so you can CLOSE it like a
regular book. new rules, that’s final.
