DIY Owl Crafts: Owl Figurines Makeover

Owl-Crafts

Who loves owls? Oh me, me, me! I love them. That might be kind of obvious from my owl wall art and owl mosaic. But I wasn’t totally crazy about the owl figurines above.

On the left, the grey owl figurine I found at the Salvation Army for about $2.00. The middle big owl is from Michael’s (it’s actually a vase). With my double coupons I got it for about $8.00. And the ugly little guy on the right is from the dollar store for, you guessed it, $1.00

I went for a grey and yellow theme because they were going in my bedroom (which is grey and yellow). The big guy I just went for straight yellow, and since the grey owl figurine, who we affectionately call Charles, was already grey, I just painted him a darker grey. The little owl figurine needed the most love. I painted him a base color of grey, and then taped a heart on him and painted over the heart with yellow. I used the same grey and yellow paint that I used for this DIY project.

I realized after the fact that the dollar store owl kind of looks like he’s the love child of the two bigger owl statues, but I’m okay with that.

Ha! I printed out that Michael’s coupon and going to buy that owl has been on my list for two days. I’m trying not to be obsessed with owls, but every one of them is so stinking cute! Love yours (:

I love owls, love them! They are everyone right now and I have been having a field day (pillows, stuffed ones, little ones, big ones, lantern ones, etc). It has gotten out of hand over here. haha

Really cute. I might have left the big guy as is, but the other ones were a great transformation πŸ™‚

I have a lot of owls in my collection too. My future father-in-law gets me a new one every few months πŸ™‚

I love, love, LOVE this project! I can’t imagine how many times I have passed up a figurine at a thrift/antique store because I couldn’t see past its ugly exterior. I’ve been owl crazy most of my life, so these are right up my alley. Great projects like these open my eyes to the potential of objects…I simply need to think outside the box. Thank you for sharing! I look forward to reading more of your lovely blog (I found you through your feature on Digital Cake).
